Our Projects
CTIPA FOODBANK
The CHURCHES TOGETHER foodbank is situated at Treneere, and has been providing food for families and singles since we opened in 2011.
Our Foodbank accept referrals from numerous agencies (schools/gp’s/health/housing/social care etc etc). Although we don’t accept self-referrals we are able to advice customers where they can obtain their referral – and we deliver.
We are fortunate to have sufficient donations to provide one week’s worth of food per family and we purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs, cheese, bread, milk and other essentials. Our customers are able to tell us of any dietary needs, allergies etc., and we provide food delivery tailored to their needs. We are able to provide gluton free, dairy free, vegan and vegetarian food. . All children of secondary school age we count as “adults” as we know that they can often eat far more than the actual adults in the household! As well as food, we will ask about other needs for toiletries and cleaning materials – we are not the supermarket – but if customer has a need we will really try to provide for that.
We also ask about pets – as the dog / cat is also a much loved member of the household and also needs to have food. We have known people to give their food to their pets and go without themselves – so sad.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? You can donate cash (so we continue to purchase fresh foods) and other necessary items. We are so grateful for those who donate through standing order and/or gift aid their giving. This enables our project to plan ahead and ensure adequate stock is held.
You can donate items – we always need UHT milk, biscuits, cereal, pasta and pasta sauces, tinned meals – the list is long – and every item will be used by a family or single person in need.
We have donation boxes at Morrison’s; Tesco; Asda (Wherrytown); Co-op (Market Jew Street); Thornes (Causeway Head and Long Rock). Goldsithney Stores, Pendeen Stores, Free Church in St Just; St Buryan and Roseudgeon stores and Co-Op St Just and the St Just Library.
HOW CAN YOU / A FRIEND ACCESS THE SERVICE? You can email us at
penzancefoodbank@churchestogetherinpenzancearea.co.uk or phone us 07950 159 841
we need a name and phone number – we will then ring the customer to discuss which agency would be the most accessible for you to obtain a referral. This is often the children’s school(s) or your GP surgery. We then can arrange a delivery.
Please visit our Facebook Foodbank Page for all latest needs and news
To enquire about volunteering please email us, so we can contact you: Volunteers are involved with collecting from supermarkets, sorting and date checking all items, delivery drivers, packing, fundraising, and our social media.
